Welcome to the Retro Upgrades Capacitor Kit Repository where we store the documentation that we’ve created for the console capacitor kits that we stock.

Important: Always double-check polarity against both the diagram & the PCB silkscreen when replacing capacitors!

Some more important things to note:
*Attention: If there is no polarity marking on a capacitor, it is BIPOLAR!
**Voltage ratings for some capacitors supplied in our kits may be higher than the originals. Capacitance always remains the same and should not be changed unless specifically stated. Example: a 10uF 16V capacitor can be replaced by a 10uF 50V capacitor, however, a 10uF 16V capacitor should NOT be replaced by a 100uF 16V capacitor.
***Some through-hole capacitors may be smaller in physical size vs. the original capacitor that is being replaced. This is perfectly normal. As technology grows, aluminum electrolytic capacitors become smaller.

Soldering/desoldering tips:

Use a quality soldering iron. JBC and Hakko stations are excellent but expensive; the KSGER T12 is a great budget alternative.
Always use leaded solder (60/40 or 63/37). Avoid lead-free and cheap unbranded solder. Recommended brands include Kester, Multicore, and Felder.
For SMD components, use tweezers when fitting replacements. Removal can be done using the twist method with pliers (at your own risk) or hot air.
For through-hole parts, a solder sucker works but is slow. A dedicated desoldering gun such as the Hakko models are the best option, whereas budget options include ZD-915 etc.
